Abstract

This research deals with the deflection of a cantilever beam with difference of shaft orientation. This cantilever beam is modeled as two segments with variation of shaft orientation 30, 60, and 90 degrees and under a loading of static external force with the direction 0, 30, 45, 60, and 90 degrees due to reference axis. The vertical and horizontal deflections are determined numerically by using the Autodesk Inventor software and compared experimentally. The results show that the beam has a characteristic of asymmetric bending in which the direction of deflection is not parallel to the direction of force loading. Besides, the beam will be twisted. The difference of shaft orientation influences the stiffness of beam. The biggest difference of deflections between numerical simulation and experimental result is 10,72% with the direction of force loading is 30 degrees. Nevertheless, the deflection obtained numerically (1.75 mm) or experimentally (1.56 mm) is the smallest deflection.
