Abstract

Apple rose leaves have been widely known in the Indonesian community as food wrappers so that food can be stored longer. This shows that apple rose leaves have antimicrobial activity. The apple rose contain flavonoid and tanin which have anti-fungal properties. Infectious disease due to fungi have high rates of sufferers in Indonesia, one of which is dandruff. Dandruff is caused by the Pityrosporum ovale. This study aims to scientifically prove the potential activity of apple rose leaves to dandruff fungus. Evaluation was carried out in vitro by diffusion methods in order to use well techniques on the fungus that causes dandruff, Pityrosporum ovale, with an indicator of achievement was the formation of growth inhibition zones. The results showed that the test material in the form of extract fractions, n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water fractions, had the ability to inhibit the growth of Pityrosporum ovale at minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC): 1,1, 0,5 and 4% w / v respectively . The highest activity to Pityrosporum ovale was shown by the ethylacetate fraction because it had the lowest MIC value. According to these results it can be concluded that apple rose leaves have the potential to be developed into anti-dandruff efficacy preparations
