Abstract
Prophylactic antibiotics are given to prevent surgical site infections (IDO). This study aimed to examine the patterns of prophylactic antibiotic use on the incidence of IDO. This study examined the cross-sectional design using medical record data and the direct monitoring of postoperative wounds. The first observation was carried out in the care room when the patient changes the bandage, the next observation is done in the clinic when the patient was treated again. IDO is divided into three types, namely superficial incisional IDO, deep incisional IDO, organ/cavity IDO. IDC in digestive surgery patients at MMC Hospital Palembang by 17.5% met the diagnosis criteria for shallow IDO. IDO was found as soon as the third day and the longest on the third postoperative day. The type of prophylactic antibiotics and the duration of prophylactic antibiotic use had no relationship with the incidence of IDO (p> 0.05). While the timing of antibiotic treatment be related to the incidence of IDO (p <0.05)
