Abstract
This paper describe the performance of three phase induction motor braking 2.2 kW/3 hp, 50Hz, 230/380V, 8, 7/5,0 Amp, 1430 rpm by using programmable logic control (PLC) based control system. The performance of the braking system is obtained by comparing the time required by the motor to stop between the braking system mechanism with non braking system. The braking system also performs with various configuration system of stator phase winding connection. The results of the braking system designed shown that: (1) the stopping time without braking system is nearly similar for different motor winding connection, (2) specifically for motor with capacity 1/3 of full load capacity and loading at 50 %, the stopping time is reduced 6.6 s (46.85 %), on the other hand for load 90 % the reduction is 8.8 s (61.53 %), (3) for motor with full load capacity then the stopping for loading 50 % is reduced to 9.2 s (58.9 %). The braking time for star connecting motor with load 50 % and various configuration, the average time 2.3 s with reduction 3.62 s (61.21 %), in contrary for load 90 %, the average time 3.95 s with reduction 1.98 s (33.33 %). Generally, it can be concluded that the greater the motor load then the braking time will be shorter, even though the configuration of the winding connection are various.
