Abstract

ABSTRACT Every company must be able appropriately to control inventory because inventory is a part in company that holds the large investment.Shortage of inventory can stop production process and otherwise excessive inventory can incurs high cost. Currently, PT Indomex Dwijaya Lestari runs inventory system that is instruction and policy of Director. Stock nearly reaches a certain quantity then next order will be released immediately. The problem is the suppliers sometimes supply the materials for packaging late so that stock out occurs. Also, based on company?s data and surveys conducted, there are high overstock in some periods. This research aimed to obtain integrated inventory model for products and packaging materials minimizing the total inventory cost with considering safety stock. Using this model, coordination between packaging materials and products can be performed. Types of data used in this research are the major and minor setup cost, production cost per pack of products, sales data of mineral water in cup and bottle products from January 2011 to April 2013, production data of mineral water in cup and bottle products from January 2011 to April 2013, and the price of packaging materials.To illustrate the use of the model, collected data then isprocessed using the model to obtain the minimum inventory cost. Solution procedures use stage and simultaneous approach (using the software LINGO 11.0) proposed in this research both for integrated inventory model with and without considering safety stock. Results of this research is having obtained an integrated inventory model for products and packaging materials with considering safety stock and without considering safety stock. Validation for the model is performed by applying it in case study at PT IndomexDwijaya Lestari. Inventory cost resulted based on proposed inventory model is lower than current inventory system used in the company. The current inventory cost of the company is Rp Rp 15,020,370.09 considering safety stock per month and without considering safety stock isRp 13,651,301.74 per month. The proposed inventory cost using stage approach is Rp 4,086,996.49 per month considering safety stock and Rp 2,528,586.89 per month without considering safety stock. The proposed inventory costusing the simultaneous approach is Rp 3,543,637.00 per month considering safety stock and Rp 3,543,637.00 per month without considering safety stock.
