Abstract

Indonesia have great potency to become an industrial country with support of its resources which abundance but not yet been exploited in an optimal way. Maritime sector are very potential to be developed. Padang city which located in coastal area produce marine product like crustacean (prawn, crab and rajungan), mollusk like cuttlefish, octopus and seacucumber, and other water animal like sea weed which will give a good result if processed furthermore. Nowadays in Padang, small and medium enterprises dominate the marine product processing. But this micro Industry in general still self supporting without a clear cooperation with other people so that the result is not expand and not giving any significant changes to the economics of Padang city. This research develop conceptual model to evolving marine industry in Padang. Marine industry in Padang developed by using industrial clustering concept to build industrial competitiveness to lessen the expense of transaction and transportation, improving efficiency, creating asset collectively, and enable innovation creation. The developed model of marine industry consist of plan to develop marine industry in Padang based on industrial clustering that covered upstream industry and downstream industry. The industrial clustering model as a result of this research can support industrial clustering of marine commodity in Padang also includes another from of furthermore processing of Padang city marine product to assign added value to improve product economic value. The developed model of Padang marine industry delivers 16 enterprising. If we assumed there are at least 10 UKM, the micro enterprise can provide job for 160 to 640 people. Meanwhile the small enterprise can provide job for 800 to 3040 people. Keywords : Marine industry, industrial clustering, UKM, commodity, conceptual model
