Abstract
ABSTRACT The increasing of energy that needed in fossil-based fuel such as diesel, gasoline and kerosene causes the exploitation of this resource increases. Massive exploitation caused the availability of this commodity decreased significantly. Therefore, it is really important to find alternative energy source before it completely used up. One of the most potential source of energy is bioethanol. In this research, distillation is designed system automatically. The system is controlled by microcontroller ATMega 8535. LM35 is choosen as a temperature sensor. This system works based on-off control system. Principle of the system based on boiling point of bioethanol at 78oC. Relay as the actuators work like a switch that will turn on and turn off the heater in accordance microcontroller commands. It will keep range of system temperature around the boiling point of bioethanol. The results of experiments and analysis system show that the system takes 145 minutes to reach the temperature setpoint. This distillation system quite enough to keep the setpoint temperature arround 20 minutes with 80°C as the highest and 76oC as the lowest temperature. This system can produce bioethanol in the level of 70%. keyword : distillation, microcontroller ATMega 8535, on-off temperature control, LM35
