Abstract
Research on study of relationship between morphological characters and the catechins content was conducted as a preliminary study in effort to obtain information on the gambier plant. Availability of information morphological characters related to catechin contents can be used as an indicator in selecting plants that have potential gambier high contents of catechins. Important characters obtained is one essential factor in the development of gambier plant breeding research. This study was aimed to determine the morphological characters thar are closely related to the catechin contens, which can be used as indicator of high catechin contents on gambier plant. Observations made on the organ morphological characters of leaves, branches, twigs, fruit, and yield components. Levels of catechins observations made only on the leaf organs. Dat was obtained catechin levels analysis and observation of morphological chracters. Observations were analyzed with descriptive methods, shown in the form of figures and tables, The result showed that red color of leaves can be used as indicator for high catechin content gambier plant.
