Abstract

Chili pepper is one of cooking spices which is olwoys used in a delicious ond famous Minang's food (Padang's food). Pepper: t horticulture commodity that hos high economic potentiol, therefore it becomes one of importont vegetable commodities plonted by-n1ers. Limo Puluh Koto Regency has been one of moin producer of pepper in West Sumotero. Types of pepper planted by the= mers ore the locol types or londroces. Due to the breeding system of pepper, we expected there are high voriobility of pepper from? s oreo. The objective ofthe study was to explore phenotypic variability of pepper conducted since August to October 2072 within 7j :.-t districts in 50 Kota Regency. Results showed thot there is high variobility of pepper. Seledion to the population derived from',tral outcrossingamonglocal typesof pepperbytheformerresultedinnumerouslocol pepperfound. Severol locol peppershowed potentiol local vorieties of West Sumotero. Hence, ossistonce of group of former by plont breeder forreleasing new,-entiol pepper varieties is necessory.
