Abstract

The objective of this paper is to look into an lternative approach to further improve the private university performance. There are many concepts in management science associated with efforts to maximize the university performance, particularly with regard to the organization's resources, including intangible assets. Intangible assets which consist of knowledge management, intellectual capital, and organizational learning capability play a very significant role in managing private university performance. In this study, we examined the effect of intangible assets on West Sumatra private university performance. This research includes the survey research using questionnaires as the main data collections tool and using a quantitative approach. The respondents are 152 lecturers from private universities at West Sumatra. Method of data analysis uses a statistical model with the statistical program SPSS. The variables were measured by using the concept of behavior and interestingly we found only knowledge management significantly related to organizational performance. These results supported that the organizational learning capability as a moderating variable influenced the relationship between knowledge management and organizational performance. The model stresses the importance of knowledge management support the private university performance. Results of this study are expected to provide benefits to all stakeholders who have the interest in higher education like university management and government.
