Abstract
Self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (SNEDDS) is known to enhance intestinal absorption of a hydrophobic compound like black seed oil. The objectives of this study were to develop and characterize the SNEDDS containing a combination of black seed oil and olive oil. Black seed oil and olive oil were characterized using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrophotometry (GC-MS). The optimization formula was carried out using various comparisons of oil, surfactant, and cosurfactant. The physical properties of SNEDDS were determined by transmittance percentage, dispersibility, robustness, thermodynamics (heating-cooling cycle, centrifugation, freeze-thaw cycle), globule size, and globule morphology tests. The optimum formula of SNEDDS was obtained at a comparison of surfactant and cosurfactant 3:2 and a comparison of oil and surfactant mixtures 1:7. The preparation met the requirement of percent transmittance (97.27 ± 0.06%), dispersibility (grade A) and stable based on robustness and thermodynamic stability tests. Diluted SNEDDS had an average globule size 99 nm with spherical morphology. SNEDDS preparation containing black seed oil and olive oil has good physical characteristics.
