Abstract

The research on 45 individuals of Hampalamacrolepidota (Pisces: Cyprinidae) fromManinjau and Singkarak lakes has been conducted. The aim of the study was to determine the morphological variation of H. macrolepidota intra and inter populations of Maninjau and Singkarak lakes. The morphometric measurements and meristic counts were used to the samples that have been collected and stored before in Genetic and Cell Biology laboratory, FMIPA University of Andalas. The data was analyzed with the Mann Whitney U test. The 46 morphological characters were used to analyzed, consists of 29 morphometric and 17 meristic characters. The result showed that there are 17 morphological characters varybetween the samples from Maninjau and Singkarak lakes, consist of 14 morphometric and three meristic characters. The morphometric characters are Standar length (SL), Head width (HW), Eye diameter (ED), Snout of length (SNL), Body width (BW), Caudal Penduncle Length (CPL), Dorsal base length (DBL), Pectoral length (PL), Ventral fin length (VFL), Anal base length (ABL), Pre-anal length (PAL), Lip lower length (LLL), Length of upper caudal (LUCI), Length of middle caudal (LMCI) and the meristic characters are Dorsal fin rays (DFR), Scales before dorsal fin (SBDF), Scales around caudal (SAC).
