Abstract
Abstract Bicycle is one of transportation moda that is still often used by the public. But then, many problems arise because the incompatibility between the size of the bike and anthropometry of users. Based on preliminary research of 30 respondents riding bicycle from the gate to the Koperasi Mahasiswa of Andalas University, average data of physiological workload that obtained, such as CVL percentage in a high category, and pain in some parts of the body based on Nordic Body Map questionnaire. According to provisional estimates, the pain complaint and the high of physiological workload could be caused by two points. First the cause can be derived from has roads with hilly contour. Second dimension of bicycle not suitable with user’s anthropometry. To prove and solve contour problems would be discussed in separated research, meanwhile for these research only for prove and solve bicycle configuration problems that not ergonomic yet for this time. To solve these problems, it is necessary to do a study about the combination of distance from saddle to pedal, height of handlebar, and distance from handlebar to saddle of the bike. This is because of the complaints about pain in the Nordic body map questionnaire’s body part is related to those dimensions. So this can be the basis for designing a bicycle that is ergonomics, safe, and comfortable to use and generate the most optimum physiological load. To accommodate the anthropometry of all bike users, it’s necessary to do a classification about the size of the bike that suit to the users, by using the design principle under extreme (5th percentile), average (50th percentile) and the upper extreme (95th percentile). The optimum configuration will be obtained by calculating the physiological workload such as CVL percentage and energy consumption also the value of Posture Evaluation Index (PEI) of the respondent. The result from data processing shows the three configurations that already have been tested had a group of respondent which is comfortable using it. Therefore, the 1st configuration (5th percentile) is referred to small size bicycle that is suitable for user with the anthropometry smaller than 50th percentile. The 2nd configuration is referred to medium size bicycle that is suitable for user with the anthropometry between 50th and 90th percentiles. Meanwhile, the 3rd configuration (95th percentile) is referred to large size bicycle that suitable for user with the anthropometry 90th percentile and above 90th. Keywords : bicycle, configuration, ergonomic
