Abstract

Cake Breaker Conveyor (CBC) is one of the production acilities in production floor of PT X (a crude palm oil industry). The function of CBC is to break and transport the residues of crude palm to the fiber cyclone (the next facilities to produce crude palm oil from crude palm nut). If CBC fails, it can make other facilities do not run, because CBC and those facilities have serial construction, the failure of CBC also can cause other facilities damage. The quality of crude palm oil also has high dependency to the processing quality in CBC. Based on historical xperience, CBC has the highest contribution (31.4%) to the total downtime of the all production facilities in producing crude palm oil from crude palm nut. Blade and shaft joint, the two main components in CBC construction, have the highest contribution to CBC downtime, Blade contributed 42.3% to the CBC downtime and shaft joint contributed 38.0%. The downtime of blade was 8 hours in 1000 hours of its operation cycle and the downtime of shaft joint was 14 hours in 1000 hours of its operation cycle. Maintenance department of PT X just wait until blade or shaft joint fail, then they replaced those components. This failure replacement consumed long time, but if preventive replacement done, the time can be reduced. Based on that reason, there is a need to determine the optimal preventive replacement age to minimize downtime of blade and shaft joint. The Jardine model (1973) is used here, to minimize downtime blade and shaft joint. The model results that the optimal preventive replacement of blade can be held if lade has operated 1436 hours and at the 2635 hours of operation for shaft joint. Keywords : downtime, preventive replacement, maintenance
