Abstract

The idea behind this research is to know and understand one of Islam movement that exist in Padang City that is Jamaah Tabligh movement which was introduced by Maulana Muhammad Ilyas from India. This movement is more emphasis on the efforts of faith and charity shaleh so very touching among Muslims who feel worried about the condition of Muslims who start away from the teachings of religion, the less lonely congregation of mosques that follow the prayers in congregation and the fewer people who want to preach from door to door , entering the halls of kampong with wealth and self. The followers of this movement spread in various countries including to Indonesia in 1975 with its activity center in Jami Masjid 'Kebun Jeruk Jakarta. In the city of Padang this movement entered in 1980 brought by Minang migrants who live in Jakarta. In 1985 the Jamaah Tabligh movement began to be widely known to the people of Padang City after the arrival of Jamaah tabligh troupes from Medan who conducted kuruj fi sabililillah in Muhammadan Mosque which is located at Jalan Pasar Batipuh. Masjid Muhammadan then serve as a markaz movement tabligh worship for the city of Padang and the province of West Sumatra. In its development, the movement of Jamaah Tabligh keudian also developed in other cities in West Sumatra such as Bukiittinggi, Padangpanjang, Pariaman, Payakumbuh, Solok, Sawahlunto, Muaralabuh, Alahanpanjang, Simpang Ampek, Lubuk Sikaping, Lunang, Sitiung, and to Muara Siberut in Mentawai Islands. In the early stages, followers of the Jamaah Tabligh movement in the city of Padang mostly from among the students who then followed by the general public from various professions.
